With a -des configuration on:

Compaq C V6.4-005 on OpenVMS Alpha V7.2-1, Compaq TCP/IP Services Version V5.1 - ECO 3

All tests successful.

with the same configuration on:

DEC C V5.2-003 on OpenVMS Alpha V7.1, Process Software MultiNet V4.2 Rev A-X

t/comp/cpp..........................FAILED at test 3
lib/ExtUtils/t/basic................FAILED at test 9
lib/ExtUtils/t/Installed............FAILED at test 16
lib/Net/hostent.....................FAILED at test 5
Failed 4 test scripts out of 622, 99.36% okay.

And what I think those mean is:

The C pre-processor must be a bit funny on this very old compiler.

I'm not sure why the ExtUtils tests still fail -- possibly a
remaining directory depth issue.

I believe we're passing a Berkeley 4.4 hostent struct to a
gethostbyaddr routine that expects the 4.3 version.

There is a possibility one or more of these will get fixed but none
should hold up 5.8.0 IMO.
