PSC #059 2022-03-11
Present: Paul, Rik, Neil
We briefly talked about "p5p list culture", following on from a chat last week and draft notes based on that earlier discussion. A separate email on this will be coming soon.
We talked about Jim Keenan's recent email[1], where he expressed concern that there is a bit of a rush to cram "just one more feature" into 5.36, and that we risk an unstable release. From the start (of there being a PSC), we've been keen to "pick up the pace". The pace of experiments being resolved; of new ideas being discussed, evaluated, and either accepted or rejected; and of changes making it into the language. The RFC process has been a key part of this.
We're in the contentious change freeze, and the key word there is "contentious". Any change where there isn't general agreement won't make it into the cut. We've already deferred one change to the 5.37 cycle: the source encoding pragma proposed by Rik, that Karl has been working on.
In the next PSC meeting we're going to review a list of things in flight, and start the process of converging things towards the 5.36.0 release.
Paul let us know that he's now got a sponsor to cover his initial Corinna implementation work, and his plan is to land the first stage[2] at the start of the 5.37 dev cycle.
Neil
