The whole point of adding trim to core is to *not* have to install a module
from CPAN.
And yes, new features aren't available in any older version, that's the
main reason for a new version!

I understand demerphqs points which are from a language developer
perspective, as a user of a language you don't care about such things.

The regular way for new features the last years was to add them
experimental behind a feature flag and mark them stable some releases
afterwards.
Defining how many releases, maybe with a minimum and maximum number would
be nice to not have a feature experimental forever like signatures.

trim is the same as many other core functions like lc, uc and chomp, do you
say that all future functions should be prefixed with something just to
ensure that they might clash with some function someone has defined in
their code?
