I hadn't considered security software. I have found that the simple "hello
world" program compiled with gcc-8 from mingw.org is detected as a threat
by Sophos and gets deleted. Maybe it's being even more aggressive with
gcc-9 and won't let it run to start with?!
I will try this on a different machine with different a/v s/w.
