It turns out that these errors are a result of floating point rounding differences between Linux et. al. and Windows.

For example, 

On hpux, linux, *bsd: perl -le "print sprintf \"%.2e\", .03125"
3.12e-02

On Windows
3.13e-002   

Is this a bug in sprintf, or something to work around?
