#####
$ ack IS_NUMBER_INFINITE .
numeric.c
568: IS_NUMBER_INFINITE
570: IS_NUMBER_INFINITE | IS_NUMBER_NEG

pod/perlapi.pod
7227: IS_NUMBER_INFINITE
7229: IS_NUMBER_INFINITE | IS_NUMBER_NEG
#####

Please checkout that part of 'perldoc perlapi':

#####
grok_infnan
Helper for "grok_number()", accepts various ways of spelling "infinity" or "not a number", and returns one of the following flag combinations:

              IS_NUMBER_INFINITE
              IS_NUMBER_NAN
              IS_NUMBER_INFINITE | IS_NUMBER_NEG
              IS_NUMBER_NAN | IS_NUMBER_NEG
              0
#####

I interpret that to say that that the usage you found in numeric.c is acceptable.

Others?

Thank you very much.
