DAVEM TPF grant#2 report #172, #173, #174

(this report covers three weeks)
I didn't do many hours for the first two weeks as I was mainly travelling
around visiting various relatives.

In the third week I pushed a proof-of-concept branch, davem/cow3 which
demonstrates storing short strings directly in the body of an SV, and
which might also form a basis for improving the current COW
implementation. See http://nntp.perl.org/group/perl.perl5.porters/244296.

Other than that I spent of bit of time looking at a possible sprintf bug.
