Imo, Zefram's comment is wise guidance for any new syntactic idiom:
Start out with a strict diagnostic policy, and relax it only if/when
it becomes very popular and users are asking for a less fascist
interpretation.  (Seems like that direction would be less likely to
result in compat issues too.)
