Denna, on the other hand, had never been trained. She knew nothing
of shortcuts. You'd think she'd be forced to wander the city, lost and
helpless, trapped in a twisting maze of mortared stone.

But instead, she simply walked throught the walls. She didn't know
any better. Nobody had ever told her she couldn't. Because of this,
she moved through the city like some faerie creature. She walked roads
no one else could see, and it made her music wild and strange and
free.

We are charmed and delighted to announce version 23.8,
the ninth development release of version 23 of Perl 5.

You will soon be able to download Perl 5.23.8 from your
favorite CPAN mirror or find it at:

https://metacpan.org/release/XSAWYERX/perl-5.23.8/

SHA1 digests for this release are:

8678eb73a9e35be60b93806573e0ea9aaad63433 perl-5.23.8.tar.gz
d5de2e6f108d756e078ede46a0cb9375a72b2302 perl-5.23.8.tar.bz2
d699800ce2dceeb17f8471cfc8d52991a3b4df6b perl-5.23.8.tar.xz

You can find a full list of changes in the file "perldelta.pod" located in
the "pod" directory inside the release and on the web at

https://metacpan.org/pod/release/XSAWYERX/perl-5.23.8/pod/perldelta.pod

Perl 5.23.8 represents approximately 4 weeks of development since Perl
5.23.7 and contains approximately 30,000 lines of changes across 350
files from 23 authors.

Excluding auto-generated files, documentation and release tools, there
were approximately 14,000 lines of changes to 210 .pm, .t, .c and .h
files.

Perl continues to flourish into its third decade thanks to a vibrant
community of users and developers. The following people are known to
have contributed the improvements that became Perl 5.23.8:

Aaron Crane, Chris 'BinGOs' Williams, Craig A. Berry, Dagfinn Ilmari
Mannsåker, Daniel Dragan, David Mitchell, Ed J, Herbert Breunung,
H.Merijn Brand, James E Keenan, Jarkko Hietaniemi, Karl Williamson,
Lukas Mai, Niko Tyni, Pip Cet, Ricardo Signes, Sawyer X, Sisyphus,
Stevan Little, Steve Hay, Todd Rinaldo, Tom Hukins, Tony Cook.

The list above is almost certainly incomplete as it is automatically
generated from version control history. In particular, it does not
include the names of the (very much appreciated) contributors who
reported issues to the Perl bug tracker.

Many of the changes included in this version originated in the CPAN
modules included in Perl's core. We're grateful to the entire CPAN
community for helping Perl to flourish.

For a more complete list of all of Perl's historical contributors,
please see the AUTHORS file in the Perl source distribution.

We expect to release version 23.9 on March 20th, 2016. The next major
stable release of Perl 5, version 24.0, should appear in May 2016.

Your friend neighborhood release manager,

Sawyer X.
