I can’t remember seeing them used on purpose (outside of poetry, as you mentioned) and have never done so myself. This seems a useful way to reduce the fraction of /dev/urandom output that constitutes valid Perl. Of course this would first go on a branch and get a full CPAN smoke etc etc. I have no idea if it’s actually feasible in practice to deprecate unquoted bareword strings.
