Can you tell me when/how it's more DWIMmy?  I wasn't suggesting $] only because
it's backcompat, but also because it has always done what I expected, while $^V
has more often surprised me.

I didn't think this was like "don't use any new features" because I didn't see
any real value in $^V.  Is the value, specifically, that you can compare $^V to
a version object with "those semantics" applying, or something else?
