Why is 'ebcdic' not a default alias to cp1047 (or whatever the most
used version of the output of «Encode->encodings ("EBCDIC")». We in
the ASCII world have no idea what to use anyway.

Choosing cp1047 and issueing a warning as well would me fine with me
too. I had to re-read the docs to get

$ perl -00 -MEncode=from_to -wE'print from_to (<>,"ebcdic","utf-8")'

reworded into

$ perl -00 -MEncode=from_to -wE'print from_to (<>,"cp1047","utf-8")'

(it still displayed garbage, but that is a different issue)
