Perl 6 is not the future of Perl 5. After enough years the 2 camps have 
separated. New blood in Perl 5 is needed (<30 demographic), and it has 
been trickling in over the last couple years. For a number of years in 
the 2000s I would say P5 was in "maintenance mode", it has been on a 
path to get out of that mentality in the 2010s.
