DAVEM TPF grant#2 report #23

This week I continued my reworking re_intuit_start(), and merged a third
set of commits back into blead, this time concentrating on correct
handling of anchoring, especially \G. This is the end of my messing with
re_intuit_start() until 5.20 is out, modulo things I've broken.
