To state my own position, threads in Perl are effectively "discouraged" outside their necessity for (imperfect) fork emulation on Windows. And I thought we should make that explicit and explain why in the relevant documentation to warn people – particularly from other languages – that threads in Perl are not something to be used lightly (pun not intended).
