What about $x = <foo>, with spaces before the bracket? Is anything
else affected?

A cursory reading of vms.c:mp_getredirection suggests & | < > 2> need

are unlikely to be fed to runperl, some future test author might be
testing syntax errors. Adding warnings for all problematic cases now
will avoid future headaches.
