No reply received in five months. 
https://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=53714 is still open in
ExtUtils::MakeMaker's own queue; Joshua and Schwern can follow up there.
 No need to retain this ticket as open, so I'm resolving it now.
