I've just cherry-picked c2a50ddb1bed6576 into maint-5.18 as
45d94421d77056cb11b2961462ab1ca53d4bdb65.

However, I'm not sure of the status of the smoke-me/nicholas/rt-118055-1
branch, either for blead or maint.
