Just figured I will repost my perlmonks question[1] here: Two questions in one really: * Did any version of perl ever build on a system with CHAR_BIT != 8? * If so - is there a way to find the value from *within perl itself* (i.e. no gcc, no Inline::C, no XS, etc)?
