I reviewed this older ticket tonight.  Bram appears to have addressed
the original poster's concerns.  That leaves only the patch to Cwd.pm's
_backtick_pwd() subroutine which Bram submitted.

Bram, do you wish to pursue that patch?  If so, could you draw it up
against blead?
