I think this is a really good suggestion.

There is already some amount of work that was being done on a rewrite, which I
have not yet seen.  I haven't read the included sketch carefully yet, either.
I just wanted to say that I think this kind of simplification is a good idea.

I also like the idea of building a new more comprehensive open document.  I
imagine that quite a bit of the open docs from perlfunc could be moved to that,
actually.

Alexander, what do you think about Tom's short document?  (I will read it
myself tomorrow.  I need to get some sleep soon!)
