This was applied prematurely.  It would be great to have INET6 support in the
core, and I hope we see it happen in the future, but this is clearly a
contentious change, and my sense is that the most agreeable thing to do is to
produce a completely compatible IO::Socket::INET atop ::IP.

It sounds like that isn't quite possible yet, and will definitely want more
testing than we can give it before the next stable release.

In the meantime, I've built a smoke-me branch, to at least see what shakes out.
