hum? IO::Socket and IO::Socket::INET don't have anything by that name.

Searching on Google shows that Adobe Flash's XMLSocket class has an onData
method, but that has nothing to do with Perl.

The "NOTE" blocks are not placeholders, but there to highlight the text "As
of VERSION 1.18 all IO::Socket objects have autoflush turned on by default.
This was not the case with earlier releases."
