Hi John,

The version of Perl IBM is advertising there, 5.8.7, was released in May
of 2005 and is currently 3 major releases out of date.

As a community, perl5-porters isn't equipped to support EBCDIC on our own. As
far as we can tell, nobody actively involved in the community has
experience with z/OS or access to z/OS.

Do you know if IBM has resources dedicated to maintaining Perl for z/OS?
We'd be absolutely thrilled to engage with them to help ensure that Perl
works well on z/OS, but without some involvement from IBM, it'd be quite
difficult for us to do so.

Are IBM's changes to Perl 5.8.7 freely available?

Does IBM have a way to provide free access to z/OS for opensource
developers?

Thanks,

Jesse Vincent
