Since this change, threaded tests on OS X Snow Leopard (darwin 10.8.0)
have been failing.  The OS X Lion (I assume it's Lion - darwin 11.0.0)
tests are passing.

HP-UX ia64 started failing with a similar error around the same time.

Below run as of 3c78429c1, a similar result for 7b2b001e.
