thanks for your explanation. You put it into words better than I could have!

Since we were in violent agreement over this at YAPC, it's probably 
unsurprising that the example use case you gave is exactly what I have 
in mind and why I want this feature in the core and syntax doesn't 
matter to me at all. Just saying this in case anybody thinks you're 
alone in your train of thought. :)

As a matter of fact, it's one of those cases where in terms of syntax, 
if we provide hooks to XS modules, people can experiment on CPAN with 
all the crazy Devel::Declare they like until we eventually converge on a 
best of breed. Or not. We'll see.
