Can we do better on say()?

Isn't this kinda the wrong message?

    Bareword found where operator expected at /tmp/s line 7, near "say sum"
            (Do you need to predeclare say?)

I mean, it isn't *wrong*, but couldn't it be better?

Or would that be dangerous, or too much trouble?
