Actually I think it's only one week until RC0.  But a lot can happen
in a week and I agree it doesn't make sense to punish ourselves (or
our users) for not having kept things synched up better over the last
few months.  Of course it's up to Jesse.

Good catch.  In order to pick that up I've tested on VMS with blead and

v6.57_07-1-g4a1fc67

There are some warnings running Makefile.PL that I don't recall seeing
before and there is one test failure (prereq.t) which is not new:
