Never. Always just indirectly. But I'm not representative, I also do not see a lot of other things, like the “'” namespace separator or empty :attributes. Of course I see the point in your question but to be sure you would have to ask all Perl developers in- and outside CPAN... Anyway, in this particular case, the “deprecated for 10 years” might be one of those few rare exceptions... I fear them anyway...
