In a recent blog post[1] I outlined an idea to get feedback and "feature requests" from companies. The idea is to create a forum where we can get input from people (both developers and managers) in the corporate world on how they would like to see perl evolve. We would collect the ideas and present them to the Perl 5 Porters. You guys and galls can then discuss the ideas. The ones that seem to be reasonable to you as well get either implemented - if someone has the tuits for that - or someone could build grant requests around the items. Possibly at a rate similar to what Dave Mitchell gets paid. That is, mutch closer to market rate than the regular grants prvoided by TPF. Seeing the prices the companies can decide if they want to finance the features or not and pay out of their own pocket either via TPF or directly to the developer. Forget my grant proposal and for now forget the question if there would be companies interested in this. Let's assume we can get companies to provide such feedback and maybe even to finance some of the development. What do you think about the rest of the idea? Would this work within he p5p? Would there be people who cold implement reasonable features for money? Would such mechanism be good for p5p and for Perl in general? I'd very much appreciate your comments on this. regards Gabor [1] http://szabgab.com/blog/2010/06/1277832894.htmlThread Next
