Thanks for the detailed writeup. This definitely looks to be injecting
some much-needed sanity into $@.  I'm curious (and a little afraid) to
see how the various exception frameworks on CPAN handle the changes.

*nod* I suspect inlining this into perldelta for the final version of
the patch would make lots of sense.
