Perl Akbar!

This is a thank-you report for perl from geoff_hart@yahoo.com,
generated with the help of perlbug 1.39 running under perl 5.10.1.

I've been doing software since I was in 6th grade (1976) and
in all those years, the single most useful thing I've discovered
is Perl.
And as I watch software (language) developments, I still am
surprised at how skillful (lucky) Mr. Wall chose his language
components. The way he resisted (resists) many fads that really
end up hurting things. The excellent choice of fundamental data
types. The clever addition of "objects" with perl 5. If you
really look at this history, it's just amazing.
Now, much of the shine seems to have worn off, and newer
languages seem to grab much more attention (unfortunately). Yet
there is still a group of you developers who seem to understand
why Perl is special. It's a beautiful combination of stellar
text processing performance, monumental effort at completeness
(CPAN), continued insightful evolution (Perl 5), and just enough
loyalty and new users to keep it prominent in the field.
We are all quite lucky for your efforts - Thanks!!!
Perl is Greatest!!!
(p.s. my own impression is that Perl 6 is a victim of this)
