This is a bug report for perl from greg@blekko.com,
generated with the help of perlbug 1.35 running under perl v5.8.8.

We use Data::Dumper in a debugger for our distributed system. For
example, you can "inspect" or "size" a variable, and Data::Dumper
is used to generate a string to be passed back or its length
taken.

This is unsafe, though, because the variable might be gigabytes in
size. I'd love to see 2 enhancements to Data::Dumper:

1) A size limit. Data::Dumper would stop and return a partial answer
when this limit is reached.

2) The ability to get back the length of the answer string instead of
the actual answer string. In theory I could use Devel::Size for this,
but Devel::Size has a memory corruption bug. Using the length of
Data::Dumper's answer string is somewhat inaccurate, but it's not
buggy.

Thanks!
