build failure: 5.10.1-RC2 on Irix

5.10.1-RC2 fails to build on Irix.  This isn't a regression, cos 5.10.0
wouldn't build either.  Even so, the output from the Configure and make
stages is at http://hetzner.barnyard.co.uk/5.10.1-RC2/
