Its the only sane thing to do it this way. 5.10.1-RC1 *has* to be as close
as possible to what we intend to release as 5.10.1, which includes
identifying itself as 5.10.1 for the purposes of $] etc. Unlike most
software packages, perl is incredibly self-aware. It would be easy for
to produce an RC which worked fine, then a final release which broke
'use feature' for example..
