Adam,

thanks for the notification, the debugging, and the patch.

I applied it to 5.8.9, and cleaned up the lint;
( we dont have 2 *threads defines anymore)

I got 1 error:

t/io/dup........................................refcnt_inc: fd -1 < 0
# Looks like you planned 29 tests but ran 16.
FAILED--expected 29 tests, saw 16

Does this happen with your perl build ?
I didnt look at the failure, or the test itself,
but the program appears to have exited prematurely.
