That aside, I have backported Nicholas' fantastic work to the metaunits
but I also resurrected the previous behavior for perl builds that are
not (yet) flattened on ext/ to easy integration with 5.10.x and 5.8.x
and 5.6.x. At least now the maintainers have a choice

Next on my list is Jerry/Robin's C90 issue for localtime64. Next week
is ski-holiday for me. Last year proved to be a fruitful environment
for perl hacking :)
