on grep and map: I always use curlies around the expression, doing it that way is easier than learning when I don't have to (I honestly don't know what the exact rules are (and please refrain from telling me again, especially on-list, although I do enjoy cool mnemonics, if anyone has one), and whenever I've tried it it's been something I've rolled back while looking for a bug that turned out to have been elsewhere.) on ' vs. " : I will single-quote noninterpolated strings out of a possibly mistaken belief that it saves the nanosecond or two it would take the optimizer to do that for me. Sometimes it is one way and some times it is the other.
