Which I infer is down to this:

    if (my $pid = fork) {
        waitpid($pid, 0);
        exit 0;
    }

Should that now be moved into the (new)

    if ($Config{ccflags} =~ /PERL_IMPLICIT_SYS/) {
        ...
    }

block?
