The variable produced by \do{my $x} doesn't go out of scope until the
block containing the 'do{}' exits. (The *name* of the variable goes
out of scope, correctly, when the do{} exits.)

Here are some examples of this incorrect behaviour:

perl -MScalar::Util=weaken -le '$_ = \do{my $x}; print; weaken $_;
print'
perl -MScalar::Util=weaken -le '$_ = \do{${\34}}; print; weaken $_;
print'
perl -MScalar::Util=weaken -le '{$_ = \do{my $x}; print; weaken $_;
print}'

And some workarounds to get the correct behaviour:

perl -MScalar::Util=weaken -le '$_ = \do{{my $x}}; print; weaken $_;
print'
perl -MScalar::Util=weaken -le '{$_ = \do{my $x}; print; weaken $_;}
print'
perl -MScalar::Util=weaken -le '$_ = \do{my $x+3}; print; weaken $_;
print'
