The issue of enlarging the perl core came up again in the thread about "Add Test::Pod and Test::Pod::Coverage to core". It might be a good idea to add several selected modules to the core but in general there are over 10.000 modules on CPAN and there are several thousands that are actually useful to many people. So it will be hard to decide which one to include and will take lots of work. Some maxi-perl distribution will probably have the same problem as there is a bottleneck at the pumking level. There are just too few people who are both capable and having the time to do the job. I would rather suggest to work towards easier installation of the modules on various platforms. That includes CPAN.pm and CPANPLUS.pm but IMHO we should encourage inclusion of many more modules in the various Linux/BSD/Unix/etc. distros in their native format. I have generated some stats here: http://www.szabgab.com/distributions/ and started to write up something I call CPAN::Porters: http://search.cpan.org/dist/CPAN-Porters/ GaborThread Next
