I realize that this is an offside comment, but are any of the thread 
fixes being considered for the current release branch (5.8.x)? There are 
a variety of issues with threaded Perl in the current release version 
(5.8.8), which makes me very wary of using it in production code 
(although from my understanding it's quite a bit better than Perl 5.005 
threads).
