threads crashes in Tru64

Somewhere after the patchlevel 30634 [1] but definitely by the
patchlevel 30667 [2] the following threads tests (if one believes
the test harness)

../ext/threads/shared/t/cond.t -1 11 82 160 3-82
../ext/threads/t/join.t -1 11 20 38 2-20
../ext/threads/t/kill.t -1 11 19 36 2-19
../ext/threads/t/problems.t -1 11 15 28 2-15

or (if one believes "make test"):

    ../ext/threads/shared/t/av_refs.t.......FAILED--expected 14 tests, saw 3
    ../ext/threads/t/blocks.t...............FAILED--expected 5 tests, saw 0
    ../ext/threads/shared/t/hv_refs.t.......FAILED--expected 20 tests, saw 3
    ../ext/threads/shared/t/no_share.t......FAILED--expected 6 tests, saw 3
    ../ext/threads/t/state.t................FAILED--expected 59 tests, saw 1
    ../ext/threads/shared/t/blessed.t.......FAILED--expected 37 tests, saw 1
    ../ext/threads/shared/t/shared_attr.t...FAILED--expected 101 tests,
saw 2
    ../ext/threads/t/free.t.................FAILED--expected 29 tests, saw 1
    ../ext/threads/t/thread.t...............FAILED--expected 31 tests, saw 1

started dumping core in Tru64. (A real 3-CPU box, FWIW.)

I've tried to debug but the problem is that with -g the crashes do not
happen, and without -g the stack traces (and core dumps) from these are
quite useless (no useable call stack) :-(
