Hi all!

I believe it's high time to release a new maintenance release of the
perl-5.8.x branch. There are several bugs that I'm aware of in perl-5.8.x.
The one that most bothers me is:

http://use.perl.org/~Shlomi+Fish/journal/31605

Which was introduced in perl-5.8.8 and did not exist in perl-5.8.7. It makes
debugging many programs including most Test::More-based test scripts very
painful.

Another bug that I'm aware of is:

http://use.perl.org/~Shlomi+Fish/journal/31775

It existed in the entire perl-5.8.x branch and may have some security
implications.

However, I'm sure there are many other bugs that bother people. Last time I
checked, many major CPAN modules were broken with bleadperl, so I think we
should make another perl-5.8.x while people are waiting.

"Release early, release often." ;-)

Oh, and let me know if there's anything I could be of help in this regard.

Regards,

	Shlomi Fish

Chuck Norris wrote a complete Perl 6 implementation in a day but then
destroyed all evidence with his bare hands, so no one will know his secrets.
