That's a good point. Why folks think developing a hypothetical Perl 7 on top of Perl 5 will be quick and easy I don't know. Its been 3.5 years since 5.9.0 and 5.10 still isn't out. This isn't a criticism of p5p but pointing out that Perl 5 is a pain in the ass to develop and it takes a long time to get everything just right. 4 years between major Perl 5 releases and suddenly 10 for a complete rewrite doesn't look so bad.
