People outside "the community" not only the people making the decisions, they are also the bulk of the Perl programmers. Compared to the number of people using Perl on a regular basis, the number of people in "the community" is insignificant. In the past 10 years, I've worked for more than a handful of companies, and I guess I've had over a 100 co-workers or so that would program in Perl. Only one of them I could call himself a member of the Perl community. Most Perl programmers aren't a member - they don't follow mailinglists, they don't go to conferences, they don't do Perlmonks or other Perl related websites. They read Perl books though, and are aware that there's a Perl6 coming. But that's all they now. Perl6 will be there "soon", but that's all they know. But that's where they have to base their decisions on. Abigail
