I've been using a lot of the flags and switches from the snapshot
releases of GCC 4.1.0. If anyone's interested, here are the switches
I'm using. I'm trying to be as stringent as possible.

#!/bin/sh

rm config.sh

CCFLAGS=`echo \
    -DDEBUGGING \
    -DPERL_GCC_PEDANTIC \
    -ansi \
    \

    -Wall \
    -Wextra \
    \
    -Wbad-function-cast \
    -Wdisabled-optimization \
    -Wformat \
    -Wmissing-declarations \
    -Wmissing-field-initializers \
    -Wmissing-format-attribute \
    -Wmissing-noreturn \

    `

#    -Wswitch-default \
#    -Wshadow \

#    -pedantic \
# # echo "-Dusemymalloc "
# echo "-Doptimize=-pg"

    -Doptimize='-O0 -pg' \
