Attached is a patch I plan on applying tomorrow to create a new file
called "mathoms.c" as a home for various C functions in the core that
are still being kept around for binary compatibility reasons. This
idea has been brought up a few times before (oldest reference I could find
was in September 2001), but hasn't yet been implemented.
Any comments are appreciated. I did see mention of a suggested
-Dno-mathoms which would prevent the mathoms from being compiled into
Perl. I did test the effects of this and found that all the tests pass
with the entire code of mathoms.c removed. So, is this something we'd
want to add as an option?
