This is a bug report for perl from schwern@windhund.schwern.org,
generated with the help of perlbug 1.35 running under perl v5.8.6.

Where'd chop's prototype go?

$ perl5.5.4 -wle 'print prototype "CORE::chop"'
Use of uninitialized value at -e line 1.
$ perl5.6.2 -wle 'print prototype "CORE::chop"'
@
$ perl5.8.1 -wle 'print prototype "CORE::chop"'
Use of uninitialized value in print at -e line 1.
$ bleadperl -wle 'print prototype "CORE::chop"'
Use of uninitialized value in print at -e line 1.
$ perl5.8.6 -wle 'print prototype "CORE::chop"'
Use of uninitialized value in print at -e line 1.

Same with chomp.

Its declaration doesn't appear to have changed.

$ less perl-5.6.2/opcode.pl  | grep chop
    chop;
# schop, chop, postinc/dec, bit_and etc, negate, complement.
chop            chop                    ck_spair        mts%    L
schop           scalar chop             ck_null         stu%    S?

$ less bleadperl/opcode.pl  | grep chop
    chop;
# schop, chop, postinc/dec, bit_and etc, negate, complement.
chop            chop                    ck_spair        mts%    L
schop           scalar chop             ck_null         stu%    S?
