This is a bug report for perl from perl-5.8.0@ton.iguana.be,
generated with the help of perlbug 1.35 running under perl v5.8.4.

While tracking why HTML::Entities failed to encode some stuff in a
tainted CGI, I was able to reduce the problem to the following pure
core perl bug:

#! /usr/bin/perl -Twl
print "Tainted";
$_=substr($0, 0, 0) . chr(0x25a0);
print ord $& while /./g;

print "Untainted";
$_=chr(0x25a0);
print ord $& while /./g;

The outputs of these should obviously be the same, but in reality you get:

Tainted
226
150
160
Untainted
9632
